At Eildon we are proud supporters of Scottish Apprenticeship Week (5 – 9 March 2018) and are committed to the recruitment of young persons in the Borders through apprenticeships.
We currently have five apprentices employed at Eildon; one is a Trainee Finance Assistant who is working towards an AAT accounting qualification and four are Support Workers at Station Avenue working towards an SVQ 3 in Social Services and Health Care.
Amy Simpson is a Trainee Finance Assistant and here’s what she has to say about being an apprentice with Eildon:
“I am currently working towards Level 3 of the AAT qualifications and have passed two exams towards this so far. I have also completed Level 2 of AAT during my time at Eildon, in which I had to sit six exams.
I chose to do an apprenticeship as I didn’t really want to go to university but I still wanted to study and gain a qualification, so by doing an apprenticeship it meant I was able to gain experience whilst doing my qualification.
I enjoy being able to study whilst earning a wage. Being in a working environment means that I can gain experience and also use this in my studies. It also means I can learn from my colleagues and understand what I am learning in context to my job.”
Modern apprenticeships allow you to learn on the job, develop work experience and gain an industry recognised qualification – all while earning a wage. As a living wage employer we are committed to paying all employees a living wage – and this includes our modern apprentices.
Our apprentices receive mentoring and support from more experienced members of staff who will help them to develop their skills and confidence in the workplace. They are encouraged to be creative and feed in new ideas and fresh ways of thinking.
All apprenticeship opportunities are advertised here where you can also register your interest in future apprentice opportunities.
